Welcome to February!

Sorry for the infrequent updates- January really flew by!

We are wrapping up our studies on the 13 colonies and will be moving on to the American Revolution within the month. Before moving to the American Revolution we'll spend some time discussing the importance of the colonies and colonial life.

Our field trip to the World Forestry Center was a lot of fun! There were some great exhibits about forests around the world, including the different uses and importance of forests.

As a class we've been discussing a variety of quotes. Students are given five to ten minutes to write their reflections and responses to the quotes before moving to a class discussion. I'm thoroughly impressed at the level of thought students have been demonstrating in regards to the quotes. One of my goals for the year is to increase the amount of time spent reflecting on and respectfully discussing a variety of quotes and current events. So far students have done a great job responding with care and depth.

Our second round of book groups are winding down. These books have been a big hit with the readers. We even cut the time-frame short because so many of the groups have already finished.

Biography speeches were wonderful. There were some amazing and well-planned speeches. I was impressed at the confidence and stellar public speaking skills of the class. There are quite a few naturals in the bunch.

I can't believe the year is half-way over. Time sure flies when you're having fun.
