This trimester we are studying geology. We are learning about the layers of the Earth, plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes, floods, erosion, mountains, layering, the rock cycle, and more! At the end of our study, will apply our geologic knowledge to the formation of the Columbia River Gorge.
In addition to geology, we are studying geography. This study will take the entire year. We are starting with basic map skills and identifying the continents. Later we will look at geographic themes such as population density, sustainability, and cultural priorities. If you have a few minutes and a map (or globe) at home, ask your student if they can name and locate all the continents yet. We hope to have them all memorized (including spelling) by the end of September.
If you have any special skills in geology and/or geography and would like to share them with the class, please let me know.
