10,000 Page March!

I hope the letter made it home on Thursday, but if not, here are some details about 10,000 Page March!

As a class we will try to read 10,000 pages in the month of March. If everyone reads an equal number of pages, we need the class (29 students and 1 teacher) to read 333 pages. The rules are fairly simple: read and keep track of your progress! Students will use their daily in-class reading time (40 minutes) and time at home to reach their page goal. Progress will be kept on an individual reading page as well as a class progress poster. The challenge will run from March 1 to March 31, 2011, which includes the month of Spring Break (more time to read!). Students can select their own books but should make selections that reflect their reading level.

While the primary goal is to get everyone reading, we decided to add a pledge aspect to our 10,000 Page March. Students, if parents allow, can collect pledges per page or a flat pledge. A pledge between one cent to one dime per page is suggested. There is no requirement to get pledges. Raised funds will go to purchase new books for our classroom library.

Pledge sheets will be sent home this week. If you have any questions, please let me know.
