Geology Update

Our geology studies of the past few weeks have taken us from mountains to earthquakes to volcanoes. We learned about earthquakes causing tsunamis, and that fire is often the most damaging effect of earthquakes. We learned that older mountains are not as steep and tall as younger mountains because of prolonged exposure to the effects of erosion and weathering. We learned that there are different types of volcanoes and watched some awesome videos of lava flow. On Friday we heard an exciting story about the Columbia Basin basalt floods and began writing our own stories of what we would have seen if we had been there (no one was around to see exactly what happened- it was 17 million years ago!). Next week will tackle glaciers!
